The Swapo Party Chief Whip and Member of Parliament, Hage Geingob, has appealed to the leadership and community of Eenhana in the Ohangwena Region to unite in order to achieve genuine economic development for the town.

Speaking at the launch of Eenhana Trade and Business Expo on Saturday, he said the town’s economic vision can only be realised if everyone is accommodated.

“Great minds combined in a collective manner have always yielded good results in all dynamics of society and socio-economic development … Co-existence therefore in the spirit of smart partnership and inclusiveness is the way to go for Eenhana leadership and all stakeholders including the business community,” he said.

Geingob said foreign direct investment in the country could be promoted if local investors led by example and invest in the country.

“Foreign investors should not be given reasons to question why local investors are not investing in their own country. This trend should be spearheaded by us. We should do more to stabilise our economy and create employment opportunities.”

He encouraged local businesses to pull up small and medium enterprises in order to capitalise on business opportunities offered by the Kunene (Angolan) corridor since Eenhana town is the gateway to the northern neighbours.

Geingob further appealed to foreign investors to explore opportunities in the country because the Government has provided a conducive environment for safe investment.

The Mayor of Eenhana, Julia Shikongo, said her council faces challenges mostly in servicing land for development, which she says is costly.

“We started the process of public-private partnership in service delivery and we are inviting the business community to join us to accele-rate the development of our beautiful town because we regard businesspeople as the engine of economic growth,” Shikongo said.
