The highly anticipated 10th edition of the Elombe Sports Tournament is scheduled to take place from 28-30 December 2023, at Elombe village in the Oshikoto region.
This annual event, which has become a staple in the local community, aims to promote sports development at the grassroots level while fostering social and economic growth.
The tournament serves as a platform to engage young people in sports activities, nurturing their talents and providing them with an opportunity to showcase their skills. Beyond the sporting aspect, the event also plays a vital role in bolstering the local economy by providing a market for various small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within Elombe, creating an avenue for them to showcase their products and services to a wider audience.
As part of its commitment to giving back to the community, the tournament’s proceeds will be donated to the local school, further supporting educational initiatives and infrastructure development in the region. Through this initiative, the Elombe Sports Tournament continues to demonstrate its dedication to not only promoting sports and healthy living but also to uplifting the community as a whole.
“This tournament takes place every year – thanks to our community’s immense support, the Elombe Combined School management and the business fraternity. This event is therefore a product of community solidarity that has grown in leaps and bounds, with this year’s 10th edition’s total prize money at N$30 000,” said Mike Ashipala, one of the tournament’s organisers.
The 10th edition of the Elombe Sports Tournament promises to be an exciting and enriching event, bringing together athletes, spectators and local businesses for three days of sportsmanship, camaraderie and community support. The organising committee looks forward to welcoming participants and attendees from near and far to celebrate this milestone occasion.
The event will also provide an opportunity for sports fans to watch live games of various sporting codes as athletes showcase their enthusiasm and skills, and exert their passion for the beautiful game of football. Other sporting codes that feature on the tournament package are such as volleyball, netball and chess. The tournament is open to all teams across Namibia.
