The Engineering Council of Namibia (ECN) has confirmed that it has received an official complaint against registered engineer Alwyn Strauss for alleged “unprofessional conduct.”
Strauss made media headlines after reportedly refusing to supervise trainee engineer Ankita Ndakukamo, because she is black and the “government wants to drive out whites from the country”.
This led to a massive public outcry and calls on the ECN to revoke Strauss’s license and on government to not give State work to the civil engineer, who specialises in geotechnical engineering. He is reportedly the only person in the country, who can supervise trainees in that field.
Responding to New Era’s questions on the matter, ECN president Markus von Jeney said: “At this stage the ECN can only confirm that a complaint of unprofessional conduct about a registered member has been received and that this complaint is under investigation.”
“Therefore, the ECN cannot comment further on this matter until the case has been concluded,” said Jeney. “All complaints about breaches of the code of conduct by registered members are dealt with by the ECN in terms of these rules.”
“Anyone interested in further information about the code of conduct, as well as the rules is invited to visit the ECN website.” Strauss has since last week not responded to questions sent to him, while his mobile goes unanswered.
