By Petronella Sibeene WINDHOEK The Annual Erongo Trade Expo started yesterday at the coastal town of Swakopmund, with 250 people going through the gates. Erongo Regional Governor Samuel Nuyooma officially opens the fair today. The Expo, which brings those in the manufacturing industry together, was started three years ago and creates an opportunity for people to showcase manufactured goods and, at the same time, to experience the uniqueness of this part of the country. According to the Manager of the Erongo Trade Expo 2006, Eddie Stevens, the platform creates an opportunity for those looking for investment to experience and possibly identify potential investment areas in marine, tourism and other sectors. Small and Medium Entrepreneurs (SMEs) are also showcasing their products. Compared to the previous event where only 55 people participated, this year has recorded the highest number of exhibitors since its inception in 2003. There are more than 70 exhibitors at the show this year, including foreign exhibitors from Zambia and Zimbabwe. Only 15 exhibitors participated in 2003. “Industrial goods are more this year. Fully represented products such as motor vehicles, oil lubricants, solar energy pharmaceutical and other ranges are all on display”, Stevens said. Steven says though the biggest challenge could be the unpredictable cold weather that results in people keeping indoors, he assured that there is a lot on show for visitors. “For children we have the jumping castle, motor-bikes and horse riding. The snake park is also there for those who have never seen a cobra and other species. We also have a beer garden for adults and also lots of entertainment from the local music industry”, he added. Entry fare at the expo remains N$5.00 for children and learners while adults would pay N$10.00. The Expo takes place at the football grounds in Swakopmund until November 04, 2006.
