Football enthusiasts are in for a treat this weekend when the topflight Debmarine Premiership takes centre stage with several encounters lined up for tomorrow and Sunday.
Kicking off a blockbuster weekend will be a high-profile clash between the league’s defending champions, African Stars and Eeshoke Chula Chula, at the Independence Stadium at 16h00.
Stars currently lead the league’s log standings with 46 points from 23 matches, while their opponents are in seventh place with 35 points. The two sides have clashed three times in the league, with Stars winning two of the matches, while the third ended in a draw.
Meanwhile, second-placed Gobabis outfit Young African will play KK Palace in another potentially exciting fixture set for 16h00 at the Legare Stadium. At the Nau-aib Stadium, also at 16h00, Okahandja United will take on tough Khomas Nampol.
Nampol head coach Fortune Eichab is positive about their weekend assignment. “We stick to the strategy and see what it gives us. We always take each game as it comes, but we are hoping for maximum points in both matches,” he said.
Mighty Gunners will welcome Karasburg-based Young Brazilians FC at the Mokati Stadium in Otjiwarongo at 16h00, while Unam will have an opportunity to collect points when they take on coastal team Blue Waters at 16h00.
In-form Bucks Buccaneers will be hoping to extend their good run in the premiership when they take on Blue Boys at the Windhoek Independence Stadium at 19h00. At SKW Stadium, Ongos will face relegation-threatened Cuca Tops at 13h00, followed by a match between Tigers and Julinho FC at 16h00.
On Sunday, action continues with Stars facing off against KK Palace at 13h00, while at the Legare Stadium, Young African will welcome Chula Chula at 13h00. Okahandja United will take on Young Brazilians FC at the Nau-aib Stadium in Okahandja at 13h00.
At the Mokati Stadium, Gunners will welcome Khomas Nampol in another exciting encounter. Unam will then take on Blue Boys at the Unam Stadium at 16h00. Bucks Buccaneers will play Blue Waters at the Unam Stadium at 13h00.
Tigers, on the other hand, will take on Cuca Tops at the SKW Stadium at 13h00, while the weekend’s action will conclude with a match between Ongos and Unam at the SKW Stadium at 16h00.
Meanwhile, Tigers co-coach James Britz says they need to bounce back. “The league is drawing close to the end and its not the right time to drop points, we go there with one aim to collect points to improve our position before the league concludes,” he said.
