Exercise yourself healthy

Exercise yourself healthy

Fitness coach Peter Sakaria, who has trained both professional and amateur boxers, emphasises the importance of making time to exercise, regardless of age or fitness level.

Sakaria, one of the coaches running Extreme Bootcamp in the capital, advocates for the myriad benefits of staying fit and healthy.

“There are more benefits to fitness than just strong muscles and a fine body,” he stated.

“People who regularly exercise have a 33% to 50% lower risk of developing type two diabetes, compared to inactive individuals.”

He also highlighted how exercise benefits the elderly, particularly by improving bone density, which can help them maintain mobility and independence for longer.

“Regular exercise enhances lung capacity, which can significantly reduce the risk of lung cancer.

“There’s much more to exercising that people don’t realise until they visit the doctor. Regular physical activity improves posture and core stability, decreases the risk of injury, increases blood volume, and boosts red blood cell count. I could go on listing the benefits all night. Exercising is one of the best things you can do for yourself,” he said.

He added that it gives him personal satisfaction to train people.

“It fills my heart to know that I have changed the lives of people who could have gone on the wrong route to fight depression, anxiety, obesity and all sorts of problems associated with being physically inactive.

“It motivates and grows my passion for fitness more, and I would like to see more people take advantage of fitness and its benefits for the betterment of their lives.

Football player Lovisa Mulunga emphasised the role of exercise in healthy living.

“It’s imperative to exercise, as it keeps both the body and mind in good condition.

“Additionally, people who are more active and exercise regularly tend to have a more positive outlook on life,” she said.

Boxing trainer Israel Hamutumbangela noted that exercise improves muscle strength and endurance, reduces the risk of various diseases and types of cancer, and offers numerous other benefits.

“Maintaining a healthy body, improving sleep patterns, increasing self-esteem and confidence, boosting mental health and enhancing overall fitness for daily tasks are all results of regular exercise,” he stated.

In summary, these fitness junkies underscore that exercise is essential not just for physical strength, but for overall health and well-being.

Whether you are a professional athlete or just looking to improve your health, incorporating regular physical activity into your routine can lead to a longer, healthier and more fulfilling life. -lmupetami@nepc.com.na
