New Filmmakers Association of Namibia (FAN) president Byron Joseph says the association’s new board of directors is committed to fostering an environment where filmmakers can thrive, ensuring access to resources, training and networking opportunities.
“FAN aims to collaborate with local and international partners to boost the visibility of Namibian films and support the industry’s growth, and urges the public and private sectors to assist in these endeavours,” he said after the announcement of the board earlier this week.
FAN is a non-profit organisation, dedicated to supporting and promoting the Namibian film industry.
It provides resources, advocacy and networking opportunities to filmmakers, fostering a vibrant and sustainable film community in Namibia.
The new board marks a significant milestone in the association’s ongoing mission to support and promote the Namibian film industry.
It comprises a diverse and dynamic group of professionals, who bring a wealth of experience and a shared passion for advancing the creative and economic potential of Namibia’s film sector.
Joseph will be deputised by Tjuna Daringo as vice president, Inna Goroh (treasurer), Armas Shivute (secretary), Vickson Hangula (outreach and partnerships director), Esther Beukes (programme director) and Angelo Joao Viringa (membership coordinator).
He is a consummate practitioner of the media and entertainment arts.
With over 28 years working in the television, film and entertainment industries in Namibia, he has honed a comprehensive set of production skills, which have contributed to a distinguished career, featuring many iconic productions.
Daringo is an actress with over 10 years of experience in the industry.
She is also the managing director of Mondjila Film Studios, and an aspiring director.
With her expertise in operational management and public relations, she will assist in their duties, and oversee specific committees and projects.
Goroh is an accomplished artist-entrepreneur.
As the founder and creative director of Inchiology Studios, he has established himself as a prominent figure in the field of video production (animation and film), and has honed his skills over the years, specialising in music videos, TV commercials and films.
He will manage the association’s finances, and oversee fundraising activities and financial planning.
Shivute is an award-winning actor and radio personality, with over 20 years in the industry. His background in media relations will enhance FAN’s operational efficiency while managing the association’s correspondence.
Hangula is a renowned Namibian-born filmmaker and owner of Grassroots Entertainment, as well as co-owner of DEVIne Film Productions.
His career in filmmaking spans more than 25 years, where he has written, produced and directed over 15 creative works.
He is currently the only Namibian member of the Los Angeles-based Film Independent organisation, and has participated in the Global Media Makers (GMM) Residency 2023 Alumni programme. Hangula will develop and maintain relationships with other organisations, sponsors and stakeholders, while identifying opportunities for collaboration and partnerships.
Beukes is a passionate filmmaker, dedicated to challenging stereotypes and conventional norms through storytelling, aiming to bring hope and positivity to the world.
With over 14 years of experience in the film and television industry, she has established herself as a prominent producer and director. She will develop and manage the association’s events, workshops and programmes.
Viringa is a lighting operator, and has been in the industry since ‘Flight of the Phoenix 03’.
He has been active on TV series, feature, commercials and reality shows for international and local productions, with his latest being The Challenge World Championship in Cape Town.
