Farmers hope for bumper harvest

OSHAKATI – Farmers across the country are expressing optimism for a successful harvest following weeks of consistent rainfall.

The much-needed rains have brought relief to many, restoring hope for a bumper yield after previous seasons of drought and uncertainty.

They remain committed to working hard in their fields, expecting a fruitful harvest which will ensure food security and economic relief for many communities.

Maria Shikongo, a communal farmer from Emono village in the Oshana region, said the rainfall has encouraged many of them to strengthen their efforts in the fields.

“Previous years were tough but this time, we have received good rains and our crops are growing well,” she added.

She remains hopeful that this season will produce a much better harvest than the previous one.

Nangula Shinedima from Onampinda village has already cultivated a large portion of her land, and is expecting a positive outcome.

“If the rains continue at this pace without becoming too heavy, we will have a great harvest,” she enthused, emphasising the need for a balanced rainy season to avoid flooding and crop destruction.

Livestock farmers are likewise benefiting from the improved weather conditions.

Simon Timoteus from Onaushe village noted that his cattle are regaining strength after a harsh dry spell.

“Many of the animals which survived last year’s drought are now healthy again, and some are even pregnant; milk is all over. This is a good sign for us,” he said with a smile.

Another woman from Ompundja village shared her excitement about the abundance of wild greens.

“I have gathered enough for my family, and I plan to dry some for future use,” she said.
