Ministry of Environment and Tourism Pohamba Shifeta has urged commercial and communal farmers who are located around the Etosha National Park, to not allow their livestock to graze in the park due to the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in the northern communal areas (NCAs).

He cautioned farmers saying, “This control measure is important for wildlife management, tourism and the general conservation and development of Etosha National Park”.

The movement of animals and animal products has been put on hold due to the FMD outbreak in the NCAs, specifically in the Oshikoto and Ohangwena regions. This has also affected the movement of animals south of the veterinary cordon fence to the NCAs as well as the Namibian/Angolan border.
