Windhoek

While many were caught up in excitement of the festive season, some local designers were rejoicing as they were handomely rewarded for their hard work.

Local designer Sean Cloete scooped the award for ‘Best ready-to-wear designer’ at the fourth annual edition of Africa’s Finest Cultural and Fashion Show (AFCFS), hosted recently at the Swakopmund Hotel and Entertainment Centre.

The annual event saw up to ten international designers, local designers and over 18 international models, with each designer showcasing 12 garments. The organiser of the show, Eva Miarka, said it was one of the best shows she has ever hosted. The show, which attracted hundreds of fashion lovers from across Africa, aims to get young and old together to tackle social issues and give local designers a platform to shine. With designers pushing their talents to the limit, models looked utterly bedazzling and had guests in awe.

“The designers managed to sell their collections during the show and different items on exhibition were also sold,” she said. The after-party was held at Indongo Guesthouse and was amazing. Great team we had this year and everything was delivered on time.”

Eva believes fashion is not something that exists in clothes only, and the fashion industry is always looking for new talents. “This event is all about giving upcoming and other designers a chance to showcase their collections. As a child I always wanted to do fashion, not particularly be a model, but to be a designer, and I thought what better way to showcase my talent and dreams than a fashion show,” says Eva.

Other international designers, who won acclaim during the show, include Kasonde Nkole from Zambia and Tadiwa Chimboza from Zimbabwe.
