OSHAKATI – A 38-year-old man was taken into custody for allegedly raping and impregnating his 14-year old daughter. The alleged act of incest is said to have taken place in November 2013.
The accused one Iyambo appeared in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court on Friday. Public prosecutor Mutafela Likando opposed bail.
Likando said the State opposed bail because it’s in the interest of the system of justice, most especially because the accused allegedly raped his own daughter.
Magistrate Helena Ekandjo informed Iyambo that he could arrange with the investigator and the prosecutor to arrange for a formal bail hearing. The case was postponed to June 4.
Iyambo is from Omege village and his daughter is also a resident of the same village in the Ompundja constituency where she resides with her grandmother.
It is alleged that the minor raised alarm when the grandmother noticed unusual behaviour and a body change in the child early this year.
When the grandmother inquired about the unusual behaviour, the child revealed that the father raped her when they were home alone in the afternoon last year in November. Iyambo was employed as a builder around the areas of Oshakati and Ongwediva and was residing at Okandjengedi at the time of his arrest.
