The Off shore Angling Tournament, which kicked off on Saturday and wrapped up yesterday, brought fishing enthusiasts to the stunning beaches of Mile 72, Sarah Se Gat and other scenic locations in Henties Bay.

The event showcased the region’s natural beauty, attracting seasoned anglers and fishing fans alike.

A total of 84 elite anglers from Namibia and South Africa participated in the prestigious tournament, competing for the coveted top prize.

Simen Andersen, president of the Namibia Shore Angling Association and tournament director, shared his thoughts on the thrilling event.

“This year’s contest has been highly-competitive,” Andersen said, adding that the final winner between Namibia and South Africa was to be decided on the last day. “We have 12 teams, ranging from juniors Under-16, ladies, masters, grand masters and senior men. Day one was a hard day, and on day two, sea conditions were not very favourable, but a lot of fish came out. It’s been good, even though conditions have not been that great. The third day is the decider, and we will see who will take the gold and the silver.” Despite challenging weather conditions, the spirit of the anglers remained high. Leensie de Villiers, captain of the Protea Ladies team, acknowledged the difficulties, but shared her team’s resilience. “The conditions have made fishing tough, but we are giving it our all,” she said.
