ONDANGWA – The first phase of construction on the Ondangwa Sports Stadium is complete, according to Ondangwa CEO Ismael Namugongo.
In an interview with Nampa yesterday, Namugongo said the sports stadium is in extension 8, about one km north of the (C46) Ongwediva/Ondangwa main road.
According to Namugongo, the bulk earthworks service was completed to the tune of about N$7.7 million in April last year, while the subsoil drainage to the sports field was completed at the cost of over N$2 million.
Namugongo indicated that the multi-purpose sports field is expected to cost the Ondangwa Town Council over N$217 million.
“The contractor has commenced with the partial entrance gate, southern boundary wall, southwest clear view fence, natural turf, and infield kerbing,” he said.
Namugongo said that the multi-sport infrastructure stadium is designed in such a way that it will be able to host different sports codes, which also include international games.
He explained that the construction of this stadium is an indication that the council has not only committed itself to its traditional responsibilities of making serviced land available and the provision of municipal services, but it is also creating social opportunities for its residents and the nation at large by making available infrastructure athletes can make use of to unleash their talent.
