Fistball League concludes second round

Cohen Fistball Club (CFC 1) and Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW 4) further extended their lead in the standings in the National A and B categories as the Bank Windhoek Fistball League concluded its second match day at Swakopmund over the weekend.

SKW A defended its lead in the U/18 category. In the National A League, four teams, namely CFC 1, CFC 2, Swakopmund Fistball Club (SFC 1) and SKW 1, played against each other. The champion CFC 1 beat all opponents 3-0 and returned with nine points to Windhoek.

SKW 1 and SFC 1 always competed well against CFC 1, but ultimately, they could not win a set and lost a bonus point. SKW 1 won against the hosts SFC 1 and the capital city club rivals CFC 2.

The fistball players from the coast had to settle for only one victory against the 2022 league runner-up, CFC 2. CFC 1 extended its lead in the table to five points, followed by SKW 1 with 13 points, while CFC 2 and SFC 1 share the third place with four points each.

SFC 2 were the surprise of the day in the National B League. After the first round of the league, SFC 2 found themselves second last on the table. This time around, SFC 2 won all six encounters on home soil on Saturday and climbed to the second spot in the table.

SKW 4 defended their lead in the table but suffered two defeats on this match day. The biggest loser was CFC 3, which did not compete and thus slipped from second place to sixth place.

In the U/18 category, SKW A won against SFC A, just like on the first match day. Oddly, however, they suffered a 2-0 defeat against their reserve team, SKW B. SFC A won the match against SKW B. Hanjo Lorck from SFC A was named youth player of the day.

Next on the fistball calendar is the indoor tournament, which will take place on Saturday, 13 May 2023 in Swakopmund. Meanwhile, the men’s national team is preparing for the Fistball World Championships, which will take place in July in Mannheim, Germany.
