Swakomund
The two Cohen Fistball Club (CFC) sides confronted each other in the opening match of the day in the National Fistball A-League in Swakopmund last weekend.
With 5:0 sets, CFC 1 saw off their second strings CFC 2 while SKW defeated CFC 2 – winning every set to end the tie 5:0.
CFC 1 kept their opponents on the back foot with Imawida struggling with the powerful attacks of the blue-whites this time around. In the 6th set CFC deservedly won the contest 5:1, in the process securing a direct qualification for the championship final. CFC 2 and SKW 1 will now contest the semifinal for a place in the final
In the national league B, the log leaders SKW 2 had entered the field without their trusted two spikers, opening the door for 2nd placed hosts Swakopmund Fistball Club (SFC) to revive their fading title hopes.
In the first match of the day, the two old rival teams played against each other with hosts SFC coming out victorious the first time this season against the understrength Imawida.
SFC also won their remaining matches and hoped for a favour from DTS but the latter lost its crucial match against SKW 2 with 4:2, paving the way for Imawida 2 to qualify for the play-off final. The result left SFC with the difficult prospect of having to negotiate their way past third placed CFC 3 for a place in the final.
Imawida 2’s Claudia Schlettwein was for the 2nd time this season deservedly rewarded with the prestigious player of the day award for her impressive performance. The play-offs have been slated for the 24th of next month at the DTS sports grounds in Windhoek.
