The FNB Namibia Agri Division and the Namibian Brahman Breeders Society (NBBS) recently signed an agreement for three years which focuses exclusively on the improvement of genetics of the Brahman breed.

The sponsorship of N$300 000 will be allocated equally over three years. Christo Viljoen, Head: FNB Agri & Tourism said that the FNB Agri Division continuously strive to be on the forefront of knowledge, product development and service delivery. “This agreement is in line with our vision and objectives to be a financial partner in sustainable agriculture. We further wish to continually add value and share knowledge with the bigger agricultural community.”  Viljoen added that agriculture remains vitally important in Namibia and isone of the four pillars on which the Namibian economy rest and a big employment creator in the country. “Agriculture in Namibia contributes around 5% of the national Gross Domestic Product though 25% to 40% of Namibians depend on subsistence agriculture and herding. Primary products include livestock and meat products, crop farming and forestry but meat farming remains the most important.”

Ryno van der Merwe, President of the NBBS used the opportunity to express his sincere gratitude towards FNB Agri for their involvement. “FNB’s contribution will make a huge impact in the projects we are currently busy with as well as the ones that are in the planning stages. The NBBS shares FNB’s vision of adding value as well as enhancing and sharing knowledge as well as remaining on top of new products and services for our industry.”
