Farmers in the Caprivi Region are advised not to slaughter or move their livestock following an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease at Nankuntwe village 130 kilometres east of Katima Mulilo last week.

The Directorate of Veterinary Services announced the suspension in the movement of all hoofed animals and animal products throughout the whole region until further notice.

The suspension will be enforced through roadblocks and patrols along the Zambezi River.

Teams of Animal Health Technicians have been dispatched to various areas of the Caprivi Region to investigate the outbreak of the disease.
