The Okotjitundu football and netball tournament will take place at the newly restored Gustaf Ngondo Stadium in Okotjitundu in the Okakarara constituency this weekend.
In an interview with Nampa on Wednesday, tournament organiser Veitunga Viakondo said the competition began in 2019 but was cancelled in 2021 due to Covid-19.
“The event was developed not just for financial reasons but also to nurture fresh talents while offering a platform for emerging youngsters to display their abilities on a larger stage. Many Namibia Premier Football League players today came from this tournament,” Viakondo said.
He also noted that the event had no official sponsor but rather a committee that joined together and pooled finances to make it a reality in order to help sports in Namibia grow.
A total of N$30 000 will be given away in the two categories, with N$25 000 going to the football category and the remaining N$5 000 going to the top four netball teams.
The winning netball team will get N$2 500, the runner-up will receive N$1 500, and the semi-final losers will each receive N$500 for their efforts.
The football category winners will get N$11 500, the runner-up will receive N$6 500, and the semi-final losers will each get N$3 500.
Viakondo said the tournament is open and teams from around the country are invited to compete.
