RUNDU – The Kavango West police are investigating a case involving a former Swapo constituency councillor who allegedly shot and wounded his 42-year-old relative after an intense argument.

The shooting took place in Mayara village within the boundaries of Nkurenkuru.

The suspect’s name is withheld before appearing in court today.

“The incident took place on Sunday, 11 September 2022 at 18h40, when a 46-year-old Namibian man shot another man with a pistol in the abdomen and the victim sustained serious injuries,’’ said the police in a report shared with New Era.

According to the police, it is alleged that the suspect shot the victim with a nine millimetre pistol in the lower abdomen after a misunderstanding between the two over car keys.

“The victim sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Nankudu district hospital for treatment,” the police said.

The victim is in a critical but stable condition.

“The suspect has been arrested and detained at Kahenge police station. He will appear in the Kahenge Periodic Court,” the incident report noted.

He was charged with attempted murder and contravening Section 38 of the Arms and Ammunition Act, (Act 7 of 1996) – negligent handling of a firearm and discharging a firearm in a public place.
