Katima Mulilo – The ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security held their post Covid-19 wellness games in Katima Mulilo, Zambezi region over the weekend.

The wellness games saw different regional teams from the ministry partaking in different sports codes.

The Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security Albert Kawana was in high spirits at the occasion.

The minister said that in the spirit of sportsmanship, and the pursuit of a healthier lifestyle, the ministry has embarked on this remarkable journey, as the wellness games serve as a testimony to the ministry’s commitment to foster not only physical fitness among staff members but also mental resilience among teams.

“These wellness games, which started some years back, have proven to be effective in bringing us together. Fostering mental and physical wellness within the ministry is crucial for maintaining a healthy and productive workforce. This involves implementing various initiatives and programs to support the well-being of our staff members,” said Kawana.

Kawana further said to achieve these benefits, managers should support health programs, provide resources for mental health, encourage a healthy work-life balance, and lead by example when it comes to practicing healthy habits.

“By fostering a culture of well-being, managers contribute significantly to the overall success and longevity of both the staff members and the Ministry,” he said.

Kawana further stated that as the ministry embarked on this friendly competition, he hoped that staff members would remember the values that unite the entire ministry such as respect, integrity, and unity.

He encouraged participants to embrace the diversity within the different teams and appreciate the unique strengths that everyone brings to the table.

“May these games inspire us to lead healthier lives, support one another, and build a stronger, more resilient community within our Ministry. I encourage everyone to compete with passion, uphold the spirit of fair play, and copy lasting friendships that will extend beyond the field of play,” he stated.

The Inspector General of the Namibian police Joseph Shikongo also attended the event and looked forward to taking part in the activities.
