Frederick wants united front for //Kharas leadership

KEETMANSHOOP – //Kharas governor Aletha Frederick has called on regional leadership to unite in unwavering collaboration and dedicate themselves as devoted servants of their communities.

Frederick made this appeal in a statement shared with Nampa  yesterday as part of her New Year’s message to the inhabitants of the //Kharas region.

“It is imperative that we collectively strive to address the pressing needs and challenges that our people encounter each day. Together, we can forge a path towards progress and resilience, ensuring that no voice goes unheard, and no challenge remains unaddressed,” she said. Frederick noted that the region stands at a pivotal moment, with developments in the green hydrogen and oil and gas sectors offering significant economic opportunities. She emphasised that by strategically positioning themselves to harness these advancements, regional leaders could unlock substantial benefits for communities, fostering growth and prosperity.

“In addition to these promising sectors, we eagerly anticipate the commencement of the much-anticipated second phase of agricultural development at Neckartal Dam. This initiative is not just a project; it represents a vital opportunity to enhance food security within our region and beyond. Together, let us embrace these opportunities with a spirit of collaboration and teamwork, and with optimism and determination, as we work towards a prosperous future for all,” Frederick said.

She further urged inhabitants to remain vigilant against misinformation and to support one another in building a brighter future for //Kharas. She expressed confidence that together, they could rise above negativity and continue fostering an environment where progress thrives.

“In this New Year, let us commit ourselves to constructive dialogue and collaboration. By working hand in hand, we can ensure that the true narrative of our region’s growth is told, a narrative filled with hope, determination and unwavering commitment,” she stressed.

The governor revealed that the long-awaited Keetmanshoop Vocational Training Centre (VTC) will soon open its doors, with applications expected to be available by the end of January or the beginning of February. She urged young people from the //Kharas and Hardap regions to seize this opportunity and enhance their skills.

She also encouraged young people to take advantage of the educational opportunities offered by institutions of higher learning in the region, such as the University of Namibia’s Southern Campus, the Namibia University of Science and Technology, and the Namibian Institute of Mining and Technology. By enhancing their skill sets, she noted, they could improve their employability and contribute meaningfully to the economy.
