TSUMEB – Prime Minister Hage Geingob has asked the community of Tsumeb to maintain unity in order to shoulder the challenges facing the town. Geingob was speaking at the Tsumeb Copper Festival that ended over the weekend.
“You must refuse to be divided in this town. I had a stint in Tsumeb as a teacher and as a footballer defending our Etosha Lions against the opposition. We were united through sport and as a defender we applied the rules of the game, blocking strikers from scoring against us. I have not been a striker myself as some media would claim, but strikers had a mountainous task of passing through my strong defence if they wanted to score. That passion for team work was manifested by the spirit of unity that existed at the town in those years,” said Geingob.
He also bemoaned the level of indiscipline among today’s learners saying: “I am very disappointed to note that many scholars of today do not focus on their academic future but rather promote indiscipline and abuse of all kinds.” He said under his guidance as a teacher in yesteryear along with fellow Tsumeb teachers such as the late Walter /Useb and Dr Linekela Kalenga, learners organised social events to ensure that pupils did not engage in anti-social activities.
