Girl (8) raped while herding goats

OSHAKATI – The Namibian Police Force in the Ohangwena region are yet to arrest a man wanted for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl at Oshikuni village in the Okongo constituency.
Ohangwena’s crime investigations coordinator, deputy commissioner Melanie Mbuuru said the incident happened last Thursday and was only reported on Tuesday.
According to Mbuuru, the suspect allegedly found the victim eating berries while she was herding goats and pulled her into the bush, undressed her, and raped her.
“It is further alleged that the suspect threatened to beat the victim if she told anyone about the incident,” she said.
Mbuuru indicated that the incident was discovered by the victim’s guardian, who noticed that she took too long to take the goats back home after sunset. She queried the victim about this, and the victim then told her about the incident.
The matter was reported by the victim’s biological mother.
Mbuuru said the suspect is Namibian and not yet arrested, however efforts to arrest him are ongoing.
