A 17-year-old girl was raped on her way from church in Keetmanshoop on Tuesday evening. The suspect approached the victim and dragged her to a nearby house where he raped her.

The incident happened at around 22:00 at Koppieslaagte, Tseiblaagte.

The suspect, whose age is unknown, fled and was still at large.  But police spokesperson Inspector Slogan Matheus said the suspect is known.

In a similar case, a 20-year-old woman was raped on Wednesday evening at Uis when a suspect, 33, allegedly pulled the victim behind a certain house, tore off her clothes and raped her.

Matheus said the suspect was arrested the same day and was due to appear in court today.

In an unrelated matter, a 21-year-old man was stabbed with an okapi knife and died shortly after admission to the Oshakati state hospital on Tuesday.  The incident happened at about 20h00 at Onamahoka village.

The suspect, 22, stabbed the victim in the upper right shoulder.

The victim died shortly upon arrival at Oshakati state hospital.

The suspect was arrested and was due to appear in the Eenhana Magistrate’s Court today. The deceased was identified as Simeon Sackeus.

In a separate incident, the police at Katima Mulilo opened an inquest docked after a 38-year-old Zambian national was found dead in his bedroom on Wednesday morning.

Matheus said it was reported that the deceased went to bed the previous night and was discovered dead the next morning.  The Zambian national was Hastim Simasiku, a resident of Sioma.

“No foul play is suspected at this stage as there were no signs of physical injury on the deceased’s body,” said Matheus.

A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

Police in Ohangwena region opened a case of culpable homicide against a Zimbabwean national after he bumped a 26-year-old man who died on the spot.  The deceased was identified as Nikanor Johannes, 26, who was riding his bicycle when he was hit by a Toyota Corrolla.  Johannes was from Eengonyo village in Ohangwena region.

In a similar incident, a 13-year-old was bumped and pronounced dead at the scene at Katima Mulilo and Kongola main road, near Bitto area, on Wednesday morning.

“It is alleged the deceased was running across the road and was hit by an oncoming Nissan pickup,” Matheus said.
