OMUTHIYA – A mission to rescue a goat from a borehole turned into tragedy, when Ericson Nghidinwa Mwafetange fell into the borehole and drowned.
The incident took place around 11h00 last week Friday at Okapayakeedibo village in the Engodi area of the Oshikoto region. Police reserve force divers from Oshakati were called in and retrieved his body.
His death is one of many drownings in the region where large bodies of water are prevalent.
Although next of kin were informed, it was established that Mwafetange hailed from Oshali village in Ohangwena region. His age has not yet been established.
Oshikoto police deputy commissioner Naomi Katjiua told New Era the death appears to have been a “tragic accident” and an autopsy was scheduled for Monday to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Police at Omuthiya reported a murder, which took place around 02h00 on Sunday when a heated argument resulted in a fatal stabbing for a 29-year old victim whose name cannot be released because next of kin have not yet been informed of his demise.
Police Deputy Commissioner Naomi Katina said the suspect allegedly stabbed the 29-year-old with a sharp object in the abdomen.
The victim was rushed to Onandjokwe Lutheran Hospital where he succumbed to his injury at 05h30.
The suspect remains at large.
