The month-long moratorium on hake fish came to an end yesterday giving fishing factories an opportunity to once again catch one of the most sought-after fish in the industry.

The moratorium came into effect on October 1, to allow sustainable utilisation of the resource, according the Director of Resource Management, Moses Maurihungirire.

October is the month in which hake spawn. To allow for effective reproduction, October has been set aside as breeding period for the hake species.

The Total Allowable Catch (TAC) for hake remains at 130???_?_’???_?’???_???
