RUNDU – A grandson of the pensioner who was shot and killed last week appeared in the Ndiyona periodic court along with an alleged accomplice following their arrest on Tuesday.
Linyando Murayi (38), a traditional healer from Mbwata village in the Ndiyona constituency, and Kandere Shinkanda (30), the grandson, have been on the run since Monday 11 September.
It is alleged they walked into the victim’s homestead at 19h30 and shot at the two elders while they were having dinner. The accused killed one and wounded the other pensioner at Mabushe village in the Mashare constituency.
The duo, who face charges of murder and attempted murder, were found with an AK47 riffle, which is suspected to have been used in the murder of Mbambi Shinkanda (82) and the attempted murder of his wife Annarosa Mungenga (92).
The police also found one magazine and seven live bullets that have since then been seized by the police as evidence used in the commission of this crime.
The suspect appeared before magistrate Selma Shika, while prosecutor Hilia Munzenze represented the State in the matter. They were denied bail due to the seriousness of the charges against them. Their case was remanded to 16 January 2024, for further investigations and for the duo to get legal aid representation.
