WINDHOEK – The head of the Police Public Relations Department Deputy Commissioner, Edwin Kanguatjivi, informed the media on Sunday that on Friday at 20h30 in Pioneers Park Ext 1, a resident returned to find the house lights that he left off switched on.

When he returned, intruders were in the house and started shooting at him, wounding him. Sources said the intruders allegedly masqueraded as security guards (but could not say the company they belonged to).  Security guards did not guard the property.  The intruders got away with several electronic appliances and clothes, the deputy commissioner added.

The police also reported that on Saturday at an unknown time, Joel Hainaunye, 70, hanged himself in his sleeping room at Omafo Village, he did not leave a suicide note behind.  His next of kin have been informed, police investigations continue.

Last Friday at 21h00 at Bonya Location in Oshikango, one person was killed and one seriously injured when someone allegedly drove an Angolan registered Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number HIH 35-62 into a corrugated iron shack where the occupants were sleeping.  The deceased has been identified as Malgareta Hipandwa, 31, a resident of Onyaanya village in Oshikoto Region, who is alleged to have been pregnant at the time of her death.

While Eva Ndiwakulesha, 42, sustained a fractured leg in the incident and was admitted at Engela State Hospital and her condition is described as stable. A 26-year-old Angolan national was arrested in connection with the incident and was expected to appear in the Ohangwena Magistrate’s Court two days ago.The next of kin of the deceased have been informed. In Uis a 62-year-old woman was reportedly raped by a 33-years-old man on Sunday at Ehafo location in Uis at midnight, the suspect is known but not yet arrested.
