The Chief Control Officer in the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MHSS) Benhard Iifugula was arrested on Sunday morning following alleged misuse of a government vehicle.

Police spokesperson Constable Jonas Matheus confirmed to New Era that the suspect appeared in court yesterday on charges of misuse of a government vehicle after he was arrested at around 03h00 on Sunday at LT 69 Club at Ongwediva.

Iifugula, 46, was released on warning. The car, a GRN 27371, Toyota 4×4 Double Cab given to the MHSS for the immunisation campaign which kicked off on June 26, was until yesterday morning parked at Oshakati police station.

According to Matheus, the police could not test his alcohol level or charge him for drunken driving because they found the car parked and the engine was off.

New Era was reliably informed that the Chief Control Officer was last year caught again on a drinking spree at Tropical Club at Ongwediva with another government vehicle, a Sedan GRN 27466.
