Although the overall HIV/Aids prevalence rate has for the first time recorded a decrease from the 22 percent five years ago to 19.7 percent to date, health authorities feel a lot still needs to be done to curb the spread of the pandemic.
Making a presentation on the National Policy on HIV/Aids last Tuesday was Dr Kalumbi Shangula, who until yesterday’s reshuffle was the Permanent Secretary of Health and Social Services.
He said at the time that despite the decrease, it was worrying to see that almost half of all the monitored sites have a prevalence rate of over 20 percent.
“What is so worrying is that the site at Katima Mulilo recorded the highest of 39 percent, while places like Opuwo and Gobabis have 7.9 percent. A lot still needs to be done,” said Shangula, who was yesterday made Permanent Secretary of Environment and Tourism.
Other places that recorded over 20 percent were Oshakati, Engela, L??????’??
