The MTC board of directors has appointed Trophimus Hiwilepo as the new chairperson of the board of directors with effect from 13 February 2026. 

He has been an independent non-executive director of the company since July 2024, and his appointment is in accordance with section 3.59 of the Namibia Securities Exchange Listings Requirements and Article 88 of the Articles of Association. 

The new chairman’s appointment follows the untimely passing of the previous chairperson Theofelus Mberirua. 

MTC has issued a statement, noting that the board’s appointment reflects confidence in Hiwilepo’s leadership, business experience and passion for Namibia’s digital transformation, making him well placed to lead the board and add value to MTC’s strategic direction and growth for the benefit of all stakeholders. 

The board also expressed its gratitude to Mercia Geises, who has served as acting chairperson over the past few months for her exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment. 

“Shareholders are advised that further announcements will be made once the process of filling the vacancies has been completed. The board, however, remains properly constituted in terms of the Company’s Articles of Association and can continue to perform and exercise its fiduciary obligations effectively,” MTC stated.
