The Namibia Institute for Democracy (NID) on Tuesday evening launched its latest booklet on corruption, Stop Corruption: A Namibian Citizen’s Guide to Anti-Corruption. The booklet forms part of the Zero Tolerance for Corruption Campaign, which is spearheaded by the NID in conjunction with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and various civil society organizations. “The booklet is significant in that it explains in easy terms what corruption is,” said NID’s Civil Society Support Programme Manager, Naita Hishoono. It provides definitions on corruption, and various types of corruption. It further discusses the causes and effects of corruption. Anti-corruption legislation and the role of the ACC are further illustrated in clear and uncomplicated terms. The booklet further provides an interesting section of exercises where readers can test their own integrity ratings. The full Anti-Corruption Act is further contained therein. The booklet contains colour illustrations and the lay-out is very user-friendly. It is available free of charge from the NID office in Windhoek, and schools and other institutions are invited to collect copies thereof. “Everyone can inform themselves on what corruption entails,” continued Hishoono. Plans are afoot to launch a radio programme on corruption on all Namibia Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) language stations.
