Swapo Party member and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Doreen Sioka, yesterday dismissed allegations that she was vying for the position of Deputy Secretary General of the party as reported in the media.

Sioka’s name has recently been linked to the position of deputy secretary general that will be up for grabs at the upcoming congress to be held from Tuesday next week.

“I do not have any ambition for any top four positions,” Sioka said in a statement yesterday.

“I find it abhorrent that Mr Vincent Likoro will just add (to) the present political confusion, by mentioning people’s names in printed articles without verification with the concerned persons,” said Sioka, adding that she was satisfied with the position given to her by the party.

Regional Coordinator for Swapo Party in the Kavango Region, Likoro was quoted as saying that both the Caprivi and Kavango regions have endorsed Hifikepunye Pohamba for party president, Dr Hage Geingob, deputy president, Dr Ngarikutuke Tjiriange as secretary general and Sioka as deputy secretary general.

Sioka said as a child and product of the Swapo Party, she believed in the principle of collective leadership and would abide by the decisions of the Politburo.

“It is my humble view that such tendencies/attempts are aimed at further dividing the people and create suspicion among comrades. Without fear or favour, I challenge anyone to produce evidence even on hearsay, that at any point of my public life I expressed ambitions for top four positions in the Swapo Party.”

In addition, she urged all “loyal and faithful cadres” to remain disciplined and focused as the congress draws near.
