Covid under control in Lüderitz

Lüderitz - Chief medical officer in the //Kharas health directorate Ife Ofunne confirmed to New Era that the Covid-19 situation in Lüderitz has been contained.

“Six female and one male patient (25 to 41 years old) have been tested positive for the virus during the period 17 to 24 April 2023, whilst all of them were subjected to a five-day mandatory isolation period,” the medical practitioner stated. Ofunne said the seven comprise five heath workers and two residents.

The contacts of the infected patients have also been traced, presenting no signs or symptoms of the coronavirus.

“In addition, all seven patients have been issued with de-isolation certificates and confirmed to show no symptoms of the coronavirus,” added the health professional.

He said government institutions, the private sector and other employers were alerted procedurally of the occurrence of the cases, and advised to implement the prescribed Covid-19 health protocols.

The town hosted the annual Crayfish Festival this past weekend, with many visitors flocking here.

“The ministry hereby urges general members of the public in the southern coastal town to be vigilant in maintaining the prescribed social distance and hand sanitising preventative measures, whilst wearing a face mask remains a personal option,” continued the ministerial employee.

The government has removed all restrictions imposed on account of Covid-19 in July 202, but insists on citizens to voluntarily comply with public health and social measures as well as to ensure that good hand hygiene becomes part of the new normal. Over 4 000 people died from Covid-19 since the first cases were detected in March 2020.
