Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said every individual has a role to play in the fight against corruption.
“Corruption is our common enemy which, if not tackled decisively, may destroy gains Namibia has thus far made, as well as future development prospects,” said Kuugongelwa-Amadhila during the opening of the Anti-Corruption Commission’s National Anti-Corruption Strategy and Action Plan for 2021-2025 yesterday.
She said the steps taken which have led to the subsequent launch of the strategy, demonstrate the nation’s commitment to foster and promote cooperation in our quest to curb the scourge of corruption through coordinated efforts.
Implementing institutions in all sectors are thus urged to introduce corruption prevention measures and their policies.
In addition, the strategy which has eight strategic objectives and 95 actions require effective implementation by both public and private sectors at the national, institutional, and grassroots level.
“Corruption can occur in all sectors, therefore, all of us have a duty to contribute to making Namibia a corrupt-free nation by implementing the strategic objectives and actions as identified in the strategy,” said Kuugongelwa-Amadhila.
The strategy is aimed at promoting systems of integrity, accountability, and transparency across all spheres of society.
Speaking at the same occasion, ACC director general Paulus Noa said the strategy has been hailed by different foreign authorities and reviewers, because of its unique provisions of implementing and monitoring mechanisms.
He said the strategy is a national anti-corruption policy that cut across all national development programmes and it aims to strengthen governance systems.
“As loyal citizens of our beloved country, surely, we all feel proud when Namibia is successively ranked by international and regional ranking institutions as being among the few least corrupt countries globally, continentally, as well as in the Southern African region,” said Noa.
He said the accolades are attributed to political commitment and good leadership to date enjoyed in Namibia.
