AMPER BO – Learners of the Mukorob Primary School in the Amper Bo village in the Hardap region were thrown a lifeline last Friday when business, political and administrative leaders pledged an amount of N$8 000 for the erection of a shade structure to protect them from the blazing sun during assembly and related meetings.

At the same event, a donation of sanitary pads, blankets, school bags and stationery were handed over from the Office of the First Lady Monica Geingos. 

Officiating at the event, Swapo member of parliament Lucia Witbooi said education is part of a learning process during which knowledge, skills and habits are passed down from generation to generation.  

“When we consider the value of education in our daily lives, we must acknowledge that it enhances our personal lives,” she explained. 

Witbooi also said education is critical for personal growth and the socio-economic development of the community and country as a whole.

She further said education is essential for a happy life, as it empowers and inspires one’s mind to create positive thoughts and ideas as well as expand one’s knowledge.

“It is, thus, my clarion call that you should remain in school and strive to always do your best,” Witbooi concluded.

On his part, Hardap regional education director Gerhard Ndafenongo said the school is close to his heart due to its remoteness and socio-economic circumstances of underprivileged learners. 

Ndafenongo expressed his profound gratitude towards the Office of the First Lady for coming on board and assisting the vulnerable children at the most appropriate time. 

“Education is, however, a shared responsibility; thus, it requires full commitment from learners, teachers and parents,” he said.

As a token of inspiring the learners, Swapo party Hardap coordinator Elizabeth Kharigus pledged a monetary award of N$1 000 for the best-performing grade 7 learner in the examinations slated for later this year.
