Sankwasa urges learners to shrug off limitations

KATIMA MULILO – Former Works and Transport Deputy Minister James Sankwasa has called on learners at Sikosinyana Senior Secondary School near Katima Mulilo to change their attitude towards their teachers and fellow learners in order for their dreams to be realised.

Sankwasa was speaking at the prize-giving for the school’s grade 11 learners after being asked to deliver a motivational statement in preparation for their final examinations.

Sankwasa called on the learners to always reflect and establish where they have gone wrong so they can learn from their mistakes and move forward.

He pointed out family limitations and poverty as some of the contributing factors to high failure rates and called on the learners to not let it hamper their performance.

“Poverty is not inheritable. Don’t rejoice in poverty, rather get out of it,” Sankwasa said.

He further urged them to refrain from destructive behaviour and build themselves up.

The former deputy minister also challenged the Zambezi region to produce more engineers and medical doctors.

Meanwhile, a motivational fund has been established to generate funds to be awarded to the best performer in Grade 11.

According to the school principal, Harris Tuombale, the fund is meant to encourage Grade 11 learners to pass and perform better, while at the same time encouraging those in junior grades to strive for good results once they are in Grade 11.
