Stolen car turns up heavily vandalised

An Oshikango man was left with a damaged car after he had only taken it for a gearbox repair at Oshakati.

Following repairs on the car, it was allegedly taken for a test drive by the mechanic on Monday at around 18h05.

However, the white Toyota Corolla was apparently stolen from the parking area of Yetu shopping complex, where he made a stop, said police spokesperson in Oshana Thomas Aiyambo.

“Upon his return, he did not find the car in the parking where he had left it,” Aiyambo said, adding the mechanic claimed to have locked it before he left.

The car was only discovered yesterday in the Okatana area, heavily vandalised.

“The battery, radiator, car radio, and one of the tyres were removed, while all the windows were smashed,” said Aiyambo.

A case of motor vehicle theft has been opened.
