Zambezi learner takes own life

RUNDU – A 14-year-old learner of the Schuckmansburg Secondary School in the Luhonono area of Zambezi region committed suicide on Friday reportedly after she was asked to return a cell phone stolen from a teacher at the school.

Her lifeless body was found hanging with a cloth around her neck at her aunt’s house at around 12h00.

The police reported she was earlier sent home from school to collect the SIM card of the phone she stole.

“The phone was brought to the owner without a SIM card. When asked where the SIM card was, she said she broke it. She went back home and never returned to school,” reads the police report.

Her next of kin were informed, and police investigations continue.

In a separate incident, an adult Namibian male died on the spot on Friday after he lost control over the vehicle he was driving on the Malimina road, Lusese area in Zambezi at around 23h40.

He has been identified as Simasiku Charles Matengu.

His next of kin have been informed, and police investigations continue.

The police opened a case of culpable homicide.
