WINDHOEK – Windhoek Consulting Engineers (WCE) in a joint venture with the Namibian Table Tennis Association (NTTA) is to host the first ever Table Tennis for All tournament slated for the Police Table Tennis Club on the 18th of this month.
WCE, a Windhoek based consulting engineering company, is sponsoring the event in the sum of N$5 000.
“We are happy to be associated with the NTTA and hope this event will be a success and there will be many more to come in the future,” WCE’s Managing Director, Johan du Toit, said.
The tourney will be open for everyone playing table tennis, even on a social basis, ranging across all age groups while the ultimate aim is to have fun and promote table tennis as a sport with prize monies at stake.
The event will work as follows: The NTTA will set up 6 tables – 2 tables for seniors, 2 tables for juniors (under 18) and 2 tables for non-NTTA registered social players. At each table, a game called ‘Beat the Champ’ will be played.
Beat the Champ can be best described as a game during which any player challenges the ‘champion’ of his respective division at a specific table. Social players can, however, challenge everyone.
A player becomes the ‘champion’ should he defeat the current champion at a specific table. A player only scores points while being ‘champion’. A point is earned by winning a match and a match is comprised out of 1 game/set.
