Itula: IPC won’t recognise results

Eba Kandovazu

Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) leader Panduleni Itula, announced on Saturday that his party will not recognise or accept the results of the 2024 Presidential and National Assembly elections.

At an urgent press briefing, Itula called for the elections to be re-run, citing irregularities in the voting process, which commenced on Wednesday and ended Saturday after an extension by the Electoral Commission of Namibia.

He further said the election process was marred by voter suppression.

“The IPC shall not under any circumstances recognise the outcome of the 2024 elections, whatever the nature of the outcome. The rule of law has been grossly violated and we cannot call these elections free, fair and legitimate by any means or measure.

I want to make it unequivocally clear that the IPC will stand firm in its principle of the rule of law,” Itula said.
He called on authorities to “self-introspect and recognise their error.”

A re-run, he stressed, will ensure Namibians exercise their democratic right, by choosing their own leaders.

“We shall be informing the Namibian people about what relevant action we shall be taking to ensure the dignity of this nation, and the integrity of our people, is restored. There is a danger if we don’t act quickly.

There will be a constitutional crisis in our republic as we near 21 March without the nation having been allowed to decide who shall lead them for the next five years,” Itula said.
