Jacobs wants to see critics eat humble pie

WINDHOEK – Newly appointed African Stars coach Woody Jacobs has acknowledged the pressure awaiting him and the demands that come along with handling a team of Stars’ caliber, but maintains he is ready to rewrite the history books with the Katutura glamour football team.

In a brief interview with New Era Sport, Jacobs reacted tongue in cheek to the armchair critics who have been questioning his coaching pedigree, while wondering whether he was the right choice to take over the reins at Stars. Jacobs laughs off the critics and remains adamant his appointment came at the right time, claiming he is ready to prove the doubting Thomases wrong.

“My aim is to make history with Stars and given the quality of players at my disposal in addition to the massive support from our supporters, I firmly trust Stars will win big things this season. I’m not saying it will be easy for us because other teams are also busy putting their ducks in the row ahead of a new season, but we are ready to give it our best shot,” said Jacobs.

The youthful mentor who had previous stints with Civics, Orlando Pirates, Eleven Arrows, Civics, Monitronics, Tigers, Ramblers and Tura Magic, boasted that he plans on winning as many games as possible through consistent performance but will have to take it game by game and see how the players adapt to various styles.

“The fans are hungry for success and my ultimate aim is to give them what they want through hard work, because they really deserve it and I believe it’s the only way we can repay them for their loyalty.”
