WINDHOEK – Well-known hip-hop artist Jerome ‘Jericho’ Gawanab (33) will return to the Katutura Magistrate’s Court today to face a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The musician allegedly assaulted pint-sized Edward ‘Webster’ Snewe in Katutura on July 05, 2013. The charge sheet indicates he assaulted his victim by kicking his head and other parts of his body in a fit of rage.

Gawanab was arrested on July 10 and appeared in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court. However, the matter was remanded to today (August 22) to allow police to investigate. The artist is free on N$500 bail, which was extended until today. Gawanab indicated that he would engage the services of a private lawyer. Public Prosecutor Menencia Hinda represented the State.

The 2011 Male Artist of the Year faced a similar offence in 2011, when he was arrested for allegedly attacking his girlfriend Helena Ngaifiwa.
