Josephat takes seventh spot at national champs

One of the most promising Go-Kart drivers in the country, Russell Josephat, finished in seventh place at the weekend’s 2024 South African Kart championship held in Johannesburg.

He collected a total of 83 points, finishing two places behind the winner Harris Radhi, who accumulated 105 points. Varhule Aston came in second with 92 points, whilst De Olivero Alonzo secured third position with 91 points.

Speaking to this publication whilst in South Africa, Josephat  said the race was good, despite making a few mistakes that cost him the race. He mentioned that his father, JP Josephat, who is also his coach, identified those mistakes, and they will work on them to come back stronger.

“I am very happy with my performance this weekend, but a few silly mistakes from my end cost us first place in this competition. However, we have learned a lot from this competition, and moving forward, we will focus on improving my performance in the next race,” said Josephat.

Meanwhile, his father and coach shared his thoughts on the race, stating, “We did not intend to finish in this position, but I would say it was a great opportunity for us to showcase our skills at this tournament. The championship is the best tournament in Africa, and our presence here is an honour that indicates we are heading in the right direction,” he said.

“We made a lot of mistakes, but it is up to us to improve. We must work on our weaknesses, and then we will be ready to go.”
