KATIMA MULILO – The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) on Saturday commenced a four-day training session for 49 registration officials, ahead of the supplementary registration of voters in the Kabbe South constituency.
The training is taking place at the Ngweze Community Hall in Katima Mulilo. ECN’s Zambezi Regional Electoral Officer Lesley Simwanza told Nampa that the training is a ‘refresher’ for registration officials.
“We al ready have voters who are appearing on the voters’ roll in the constituency, but what we will be doing after the training is to capture those who have turned 18, and those who have relocated to Kabbe South.
That is why it is called a supplementary voters’ registration,” he said.
The by-election in the constituency has been necessitated by the resignation of former constituency councillor John Likando.
He was sworn into the eighth National Assembly on 25 March 2025. Simwanza said, and as prescribed by law, the by-election must be held within 90 days from the date that the vacancy arose.
He noted that registration officials are expected to begin work from 10 to 12 April 2025.
Nine one-day mobile teams are set to cover the entire flood-prone constituency.
“If all goes as planned, the by-election could be held on 17 June 2025,” Simwanza said. -Nampa
