WINDHOEK– Twenty-one-year old, Kandiwapa Aron, is determined to use the Energy 100 FM platform as a platform for her fellow young people.
Kandiwapa has been crowned Miss Energy 2013. The glittering event was one of the local top hotels here, The Hilton Hotel where ten ladies competed against one other to be this year’s Miss Energy100FM. Kandiwapa says that she’s overwhelmed as she did not expect to win. “I feel beautiful, accomplished, motivated and no words can describe how I feel. I didn’t know I was going to take the crown but I think my presentation and composure made me win,” says she. She adds that she is excited to use the radio as the platform to be the voice of young people and to be heard by the nation. “This is great chance for me to raise voices that are not heard, try to help were I can and analyse what needs to be done,” she says.
Kandiwapa will be taking over the previous Miss Energy’s project such as the Farm Six Project with funds, stationary, toys, clothing that includes school uniforms, gardening tools and food items. She will also be working on her own charity organisation titled the ‘Light House’ and organise a Christmas party for children in the DRC informal settlement of Swakopmund. “I’m excited to take this initiative upon these projects, we are approaching Christmas and I pledge for bigger companies to come forward and help sponsor these projects with goodies or just anything that will help put a smile on this kids’ faces,” she pledges.
Miss Energy walked away with a shopping voucher from Hemline, MI phone, travelling bags from Dinapama, a trip to Zanzibar, hampers from Antonio’s Art, weekend for two at Hilton Hotel and many other goodies. She adds that for change to take place, people need to change their mindset and culture. “It has become a trend, culture is a major foundation upon which people base their actions upon, if we could change our culture we can change our mindset,” says Kandiwapa.
Elize Nghifitikeko and Elizabeth Paulus were crowned first and second princesses respectively. The theme of the pageant was Celebrating Namibian Women.
