A 39-year-old woman arrested for allegedly scamming a pensioner, was granted bail of N$2 000 last week.
Rosalia Johannes made her first appearance in the Eenhana Magistrate’s Court last week.
Her case was then postponed to 11 January 2024 for further police investigations.
Johannes sells kapana and fresh meat at the Eenhana open market.
The victim is an 83-year-old woman from Hailombe village in Ohangwena.
The regional head of crime investigations, deputy commissioner Zachariah Amakali, said the accused allegedly took two cows in 2018 from the complainant, saying she would pay for them within a short period of time. However, she failed to settle the full amount.
The value of the cows was N$14 000, but Johannes settled an amount of N$2 950.
The complainant then opened a case against Johannes.
Meanwhile, 43-year-old Maagano Kambonde was arrested after she allegedly left her three minor children unattended at home. One of them, aged 11 months, resultantly drowned in a container.
Kambonde appeared in the Outapi Magistrate’s Court last week, and was granted bail of N$1 500.
The incident happened in 2021 at Uuhongo village in the Onesi constituency in the Omusati region. Her case was postponed to 12 February next year. Police investigations continue in the matter.
