KARASBURG – Residents of Karasburg in the ||Kharas Region have expressed readiness to cast their votes in the Presidential and National Assembly elections on Wednesday.
In an interview with Nampa here on Monday, 39-year-old Mouca Vries said even though he has not participated in elections before he was ready to cast his vote.
“It will be my first time to vote, in the past I didn’t vote because I felt as a gay person my rights are not recognised, and that discouraged me really, however this time I want to vote and see if there will be changes.
I want to see some changes in this town, we want jobs, any types of jobs for our youth, so that we improve our living standards. When these young people finish their school, they just sit around, we want recreational facilities for our children and young people too,” added Vries.
Felicity Hendricks said she is keen to cast her vote on Wednesday and hopes that the new leaders will bring training centres to the town.
“I have children and I hope that when they finish school here, they are able to continue with training here to prepare them for the job market,” said the elderly woman.
Nineteen-year-old Divone Kemp, who is a first-time voter said, “Yes I am ready to vote, I would love young people in this town to get jobs, because currently most of the young people are unemployed and they turn to drugs and alcohol.”
Karasburg East Constituency councillor, Anseline Beukes urged all inhabitants in her constituency that have registered to vote to do so on Wednesday.
“Sit back and see yourself and a clear mind and understanding, think where do you want to be five years from now. All parties have presented their manifestos, see which one makes sense and speak to you, time for party loyalties and party love is over.
Think of yourself and vote for change, there are a lot of challenges within our communities and development is needed. Let us not be those that sold their birthright for food and the moment, think of your future and vote correctly,” she added. -Nampa
