The old adage that when one door closes, another one opens, appears to be favouring Black Africa’s out-of-contract gangling striker, one Roger Kumbee Katjiteo.
Reports suggest the lethal goal poacher is on the verge of joining top Gaborone outfit Botswana Defence Force (BDF) in the highly competitive Botswana top tier football league.
Reliable sources confirmed to New Era Sport that the move is almost a done deal and only the dotting of the i’s and crossing of the t’s remain before the transfer is concluded.
Katjiteo has been blowing hot and cold during his tenure with Black Africa, and sporadic cameo appearances with the Namibian senior football team, the Brave Warriors, by the beanpole net buster have finally seen him come out of his shell and enjoy a splendid season last term.
He single-handedly led the often-blunt Black Africa firing line and is rightfully accredited for having played his part in the Gemengde outfit’s late push for the coveted MTC Premiership title.
The soft-spoken lanky striker was among dozens of BA’s playing personnel that were laid off by the club as management sought to cut costs.
Although the majority of the squad members are believed to have been offered new contracts with pay cuts, it’s not clear whether Katjiteo has re-signed or not. In the absence of a new deal with his former side, Katjiteo will join the Gaborone side as a free agent.
He will become the third Namibian footballer to ply his trade in the Botswana topflight league following in the footsteps of compatriots Jerome ‘Crocodile’ Louis and Benson ‘Styles’ Shilongo.
BA’s decision to lay off its players has come back to haunt them big time as some of the club’s leading footballers jumped at the opportunity to seek greener pastures elsewhere, on free transfers.
