A Katutura East constituency office was officially opened on Saturday.

In a speech read on his behalf by the Minister of Regional and Local Government, Housing and Rural Development, John Pandeni, President Hifikepunye Pohamba urged the residents to desist from corrupt practices.

He said corruption is detrimental to the country’s development objectives.

“Our fight against corruption must go hand in hand with the promotion of ethical standards to make our country free of corruption. It is the only way we can safely achieve our goals as outlined in the NDP3 and Vision 2030,” he said.

Pohamba said the Katutura East constituency office is part of the city and that it is incumbent upon everyone to keep Windhoek clean, environmentally safe, investor friendly, a holiday destination and the cleanest city on the continent.

“In this regard, we must work hard to ensure that all parts of the city, including informal settlements, are clean in order to achieve a high standard of hygiene and safety.”

He called on the councillor and staff of the constituency to discharge their political and administrative duties responsibly.

“Let this be an office for the entire people of Khomas Region,” he urged.
Khomas Regional Governor, Sophia Shaningwa, said the new office brings the number of constituency offices in the region to 10.

“Katutura East constituency is one of the largest in geographical size but less populated yet diverse in socio-political, cultural and economic spheres.
